FOSSULIS

TECHCOM experts have developed the special FOSULIS deep immersion bath nozzle. It is designed to significantly reduce disruptions of the steel surface in the mold, to minimize the penetration of the liquid steel flow emanating from the immersion nozzle, and to improve liquid phase mixing, especially in the axial part of a billet. The result is a notable improvement in billet macrostructure quality in the caster. FOSULIS advantages:

  • Fewer nonmetallic inclusions
  • Greater billet homogenization (due to a reduction of the liquation processes in crystallizing steel).

APS

TECHCOM specialists have developed a number of technologies for an efficient and effective stirring mode in the ladle and the creation of metal flows without surface disruption of the slag. These measures are targeted on an improvement in both technical and economic indices of furnace processing and steel quality. APS is a highly efficient technology for the alternating (pulse) purging of the melt in the ladle using neutral gas injected through the purge elements integrated into the ladle bottom. DPS involves oscillation of a steel ladle in the vertical axis to a maximum of 360° with simultaneous addition of inert gases through at least one purging element. Due to the inertial separation of steel from an inner wall of the ladle, the gas affects its entire volume, including the bottom layers. It thus produces a five-fold increase in metal volume subject to simultaneous purging. These new procedures for the purging of the liquid melt in the steel ladle offer the following advantages:

  • Fast chemical and thermal homogenization of the metal;
  • More effective desulphurization and degasification, along with a reduction in nonmetallic inclusions;
  • Shortening of the operating mode in a ladle furnace unit;
  • Cut in energy consumption up to 10%;
  • Reduction in electrode consumption;
  • Ladle brick lining savings and increased performance of 5 -7%;
  • Lower atmospheric emissions of CO and CO2

DVS

Optimization of steelmaking process is possible through an intensification of heat and mass transfer in a melting unit. This is achieved primarily by increasing the power of bath stirring through injection of inert gas (nitrogen, argon) below surface of the melt. DVS technology functions according to this principle and represents a promising step in the development of neutral gas purging during steel production. DVS not only replaces VVS technology, but is also a high-potential alternative to the DPP devices used in more than 150 steel plants worldwide. The DVS´s process is based on neutral gas purging, but using just one element instead of many. Service life of the purging element is also reduced, as its bath energy consumption. Moreover, DVS technology not only enhances bath refining, but also improves oxygen and nitrogen degasification. DVS technology provides:

  • An intensification of mass and heat transfer processes in the steel bath due to the impact of a dispersed flow of inert gas;
  • The activation of a decarbonization reaction, as the neutral gas bubbles form the centers of the nucleation of a new gas phase;
  • Reduced melt times;
  • Improvements in the slag melting mode;
  • Multi-level, fail-safe system;
  • High resistance;
  • Reusability of the purging element;
  • Support for the direct regulation of gas quantities;
  • Greater workplace safety;
  • Positive impact on the environment.

Patent RU 2374328

DSSL

Steel production optimization is possible through an intensification of heat and mass transfer in the melting unit, which is achieved primarily by increasing the stirring power of the steel bath. This is accomplished by injection of inert gas (nitrogen, argon) below the surface of the liquid metal. DSSO2 (oxygen) / DSSL (argon, nitrogen) technologies have been developed in line with this principle and are intended to purge the melt with inert gas or oxygen. The purging element is installed in a furnace wall and consists of a monolithic block into which a channel lance made of high-quality refractory material has been integrated. The lance moves into the working area of the furnace in accordance with mechanical wear levels. An optimum number of lances and their location for each steelmaking unit is determined individually by means of mathematical and cold simulation. Advantages of deep bath purging systems:

  • The DSS / DSSL technologies can be easily adapted to furnaces of various designs and any type of steelmaking process;
  • Increase in heat and mass transfer due to additional stirring;
  • Higher utilization factor with regard to all energy inputs and hence lower consumption;
  • Reduced refractory consumption;
  • Significant improvement in melt degasification;
  • Prevention of unexpected boiling and rising;
  • Shorter melt times.

Security systems for melting and casting furnaces

Safety control systems developed by our partner company SAVEWAY provide opportunity for continuous measurement of residual thickness of the lining during melting process in a furnace. This is the only safety technology in the world, which measures actual residual thickness of the lining. Along with obvious wear, such as erosion or washout, the system identifies the hidden states of wear, such as hazardous metal penetration and cracks.

This system allows you to switch from the mode “melting” to the mode “drying of lining”. Thus, lining is reliably controlled as for metal penetration even at the stage of drying. Apart from it SAVEWAY® system controls water penetration caused by damage of cooling system of inductor coil or coolers of a furnaces.
